Well here I am. A little over 6 months with the iPhone 11 Pro and I have some thoughts. Firstly, the experience has been quite good overall. It is an extremely well made phone with tight tolerances and a good weight to it. I really like the quality of the screen and the brightness level it can reach because sunlight can make it quite hard to see a screen. I like how the phone feels in the hand as well. It feels like an incredibly well crafted slab.
Now some of the things I don’t like and haven’t liked for pretty much the entire time. I don’t like Face ID. I actually think that in many ways it is inferior to fingerprint sensors. It can be extremely finicky to use sometimes when you are lying down, a bit distracted by a conversation and many other instances. Fingerprint sensors make it so that the phone can be unlocked before you pull it out of your pocket. That is a huge win for the supposedly old fingerprint sensors.
Another problem I have is not with this phone, but with Apple’s decision to make iPhones square on the edges again. I really like the curved sides of the iPhone 11 Pro because it is very comfortable in your hand. Squared off edges remove that entirely. All in all though, I have really enjoyed using the iPhone 11 Pro and I think it was the superior design choice compared to the iPhone 12 lineup.
