The look and feel of iPhones vs Samsung’s

Over the years many iPhones and many Samsung phones have gone through my hands. A few things have really stood out to me throughout all of these phones. First off, software. Obviously these two brands have different approaches to software. Samsung just wants to give you everything you could possibly do with your phone. Whereas Apple wants focus on the things that matter most to its users. These two different approaches really make a difference when it comes to everyday use of the phones. One thing I noticed with every Samsung phone that I had was that there was this weird stutter, once in a while, where I would be scrolling and then the screen would visibly refresh. It got really annoying sometimes and other times it wouldn’t do anything. I think this might be due to Samsung trying to give you everything and not focusing on the simple day to day things. Apple, on the other hand, puts pretty much all of their focus on the day to day. You may not get everything you could possibly do with a smartphone, at least on the surface, but you do get the smoothest experience ever on a smartphone. Android phones, at least the ones I’ve used, are just not as smooth.

The next thing is hardware. This one is tough because once again, Apple and Samsung have very different thought processes on hardware. With Apple each phone feels very solid in the hand which is due to the sheer weight of the thing. Apple is not shy about the weight whereas Samsung is concerned about the weight. This can make Samsung phones feel slightly less premium, but at the same time they are more comfortable to hold for long periods of time. Samsung also really likes curved glass on the front and back of their phones whereas Apple trends towards flat glass with curved side rails. These physical differences are really up to the user and which one they prefer.

One last thing that needed to be mentioned is the displays. The displays could not be more different. Apple is perfectly fine leaving a little bit of border around the edges and having a notch at the top, which is required currently due to FaceID’s technology. Samsung keeps making those borders thinner and thinner almost with every generation of their phones. I do think Samsung looks a bit more pleasing to the eye with those super thin bezels on the display, but at the same time accidental touches are a real thing with the bezels being so thin.

In the end, It is up to you which phone you prefer, but like I said in a previous article, I prefer the way of iPhone.
