One item that almost everyone has is a Smartphone, at least in first world countries. Additionally, something that almost everyone has alongside their smartphone is a case. Cases can range in price anywhere from $5 to $50 and so forth. If you’re someone who usually gets a higher end case and you usually get the latest smartphone or a different smartphone every year, then you may have run into the problem of having to get a new case each time. Smartphone manufacturers don’t care about cases or the consumer having to buy a case every year. The result, in just over a year, if you get the newest smartphone each time a new one comes out, you will have spent close to $100 just for a case for each smartphone, added onto the money you already spent to get the phone. This is a high price to pay for something you discard once you get a new phone. This has been quite a ponderous subject for me because I don’t want to have to pay extra money due to next year’s smartphone being different from the previous year.
As a positive, Apple iPhone has actually done the best at keeping their phones relatively the same shape. Using the same shape over the years has allowed some wiggle room with keeping the same case you had last year. However, this certainly has its ups and downs. The design of the phone gets stale and looks dated by the third iteration of the phone. Samsung, on the other hand, has had so much variation between phone designs that keeping a case from year to year is next to impossible. In my opinion, Apple is the one that has made it the easiest to keep a case.
What does this all mean in the end though? Well, to be frank, it probably doesn’t bother anybody buying a new case each time they get a phone and to be honest it doesn’t bother me too much either. Although, I would not mind spending less money every time I got a new smartphone if I had a choice.
